Manager Resource Recovery and Circular Economy - City of Coffs Harbour
About This Role
Shape how a growing regional city manages resources and waste
The City of Coffs Harbour provides waste and resource recovery services to more than 81,000 people across the coast, city and hinterland. A substantial program of work is ahead as the City prepares to close its landfill, develop a new transfer station and renew major collection and processing contracts.
The Resource Recovery and Waste Strategy 2025–2041 provides a clear direction. This role will help turn that strategy into practical services, infrastructure and regional solutions.
Role and Priorities
The Manager Resource Recovery and Circular Economy oversees waste and resource recovery, landfill operations, transfer stations and waste strategy.
Combining service delivery, infrastructure planning and commercial management, the role offers scope to explore new technology and better ways to recover resources. A well-resourced team, consultants, contractors and regional partners will support delivery of priorities including:
- Planning for landfill closure and future disposal pathways
- Progressing the new transfer station and other waste infrastructure priorities
- Preparing major collection and processing contracts for renewal
- Exploring technology and new approaches to resource recovery
- Maintaining safe, compliant and reliable services and facilities
- Building team capability, contractor performance and regional partnerships.
Your Experience and Approach
Senior management experience in a complex operational or service environment is essential. Knowledge of waste, resource recovery and the circular economy will be well regarded, although candidates may come from an adjacent field such as infrastructure, utilities or environmental services.
You will bring strong service, contract and infrastructure management skills, a collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with staff, consultants and contractors. Local government experience will also be well regarded.
